OnlyCritiques.com Review:
E. Joseph Cossman, born at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1918, left Army after the World War II. He did not have any college degree and took up business armed with a high school degree from Braddock, PA. E. Joseph Cossman had experience of his father’s grocery store during his childhood and three-year stint in the army in Europe.
After the war all commodities were scarce and a chance reading in classified ad of newspaper that soap powder was available in plenty led E. Joseph Cossman to devise his first marketing idea. Soap powder was in high demand in Europe and other countries after war. Hence, he made an order list worth $180,000 and conducted total sale efficiently. He made a profit of $30,000. This set the ball rolling for Mail Order business.
After the World War II, in 1947, there were no credit cards, 800 numbers, or computers and people promoted business through newspaper ads. Joseph started his business career in these situations at Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Joseph’s philosophy was that there are many ways of taking a product and you can just twist it to turn into a moneymaking opportunity. E. Joseph Cossman put his philosophy into action taking more than twenty products and selling more than a million of each product but with a slight twist. His marketing techniques were-14 balloons for $1.00 but as Spud Gun, Fly Cake, Plastic Ant Farm, etc. Some products recorded superb sales like selling plastic Shrunken Heads for $2.98 while some took some time like four million high quality prints of world’s greatest paintings.
E. Joseph Cossman stresses on importance of developing your ideas-your greatest asset and everything else- education, degree, experience, and capital take shape through your ideas. Joseph wanted to spread his idea of business worldwide through his book - How I Made $1,000,000 in Mail Order (And You Can Too). He organized many successful seminars and important universities offer Joseph’s 11 Step Entrepreneurial Program to marketing students. He also wanted to complete college education and Pepperine University enrolled him into a Master’s program because of his marketing experience. He received Master of Business Administration degree in 1977. Cossman Principles of Marketing applies to Internet marketing even today.
E. Joseph Cossman died on December 7, 2002 at Palm Springs, California.
