Mr. Trump is brilliant! He in my opinion is the most influential and successfully self promoting real estate guru. The odds of any of us achieving that level of success in real estate is highly unlikely. However, for the rest of us maybe the following would be beneficial to you.

Donald Trump is known to the world as one of the richest and most resourceful men in the history of real estate. At the height of his glory in the 1980s, his empire included Trump Tower, Trump Taj Mahal, the Trump Shuttle airline, more than 24,000 apartments and casinos in Atlantic City, as well as many private homes.

Born in 1946 as the son of a real estate developer, Donald Trump’s talent lay in deal making. In the 1980s, he was able to secure large loans with little collateral that allowed him to build the empire that he is known for. He built skyscrapers and apartment complexes, all with the Trump name in them like Trump Towers, Trump Taj Mahal, etc. While this invited ridicule from some quarters, it suited his flamboyant personality and lifestyle.

By 1990, however, economic recession combined with mounting debt had led Donald Trump to the brink of bankruptcy with a whopping $900 million in personal debt and nearly $3.5 billion in business debt. He avoided legal action by convincing banks and bondholders to restructure his debt and recover what was possible. In 1995, Trump consolidated his holdings under the publicly held Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts. The company raised money initially with the stock rising to $35 but its huge $2 billion interest burden eventually wiped out all profits. In 2004, financiers demanded a restructuring of the debt and equity structure of the company and Trump had to trade nearly half his personal holdings to retire his business debt.

Through all these events, Donald Trump married thrice, had four children, produced a popular reality show on television and inspired many books on the art of ‘making it big’. He is the owner of the Miss Universe, Miss Teen USA and Miss USA beauty pageants, not to mention a $100 million yacht. Always the showman, Trump likes to be called as The Comeback Kid.
