Sonny Bloch was the infamous financial radio and book guru. Bloch ran a successful first-rate show “The Sonny Bloch Show” which was aired for around 15 years. An estimated 2 million listeners steadfastly tuned in to his shows.

Sonny Bloch is also the author of Inside Real Estate wherein he advises readers not to give possession of their sold houses until they manage to find a new home for themselves. This enables one to assess the exact amount of money they have thereby making negotiations on the next house easier. It also removes the worry of an extra mortgage payment.

Sonny Bloch was an accomplished radio host and had a great career. His talk show was an established one. He managed to get prominent people like Greenspan and Volcker on his show.  Despite it all, he strayed.

Slowly, an inconsistency crept in and things started changing after he began to entertain dubious characters on his show, which presumably had paid for their appearances.

Sonny Bloch broke all rules when he went on air to sell unregistered shares of some Florida radio stations he was buying. He escaped before the SEC could catch him. He fled to the where his wife had a base.

Sonny Bloch was under the impression that the did not have an extradition treaty with the Republic. This was his biggest mistake.

Interpol apprehended Bloch in 1995. Authorities accused him of deceiving listeners by giving false investment advice via his radio show. Sonny declared himself of erring on seven counts of tax evasion and perjury. Bloch was accountable for duping millions by giving them false investment advice. He was declared guilty of tax evasion. He sentenced to a Newark prison for 21 months.

However, Sonny Bloch obtained a release much earlier, due to poor health and he died of throat cancer in 1998.

Sonny Bloch’s was a pioneering effort to popularize financial radio. However, his sordid deeds caused more harm than good to the cause.
