Better Business Bureau has been a national organization in the since 1912. Various Better Business Bureaus across the country have a central organization in CBBB, set up in 1970. Better Business Bureau has a network of many member organizations in Canada and United States. The bureau is involved in solving many cross border disputes, provides many regulatory and business education programs to consumers.

Better Business Bureau holds the banner for being the most accepted and recognized authority on deciding ethical and correct marketing and advertising practices of different companies. Statistics indicate Better Business Bureau providing service to more than 60 million consumers in 2004. The main aim and function of Better Business Bureau is to encourage consumer trust and confidence in the Internet market.

The main designated functions of Better Business Bureau included scanning of truth in advertisements, submit business reliability reports, resolve disputes, and educate consumers about the different businesses. To many across the country, Better Business Bureau is the ultimate in everything connected to businesses. It is supposedly the most trustworthy.

However, in reality, Better Business Bureau is more concerned about the monthly or yearly charges you send them. If you pay them regularly, they report good tiding about your business. If you default in your payments, Better Business Bureau reports your business enterprise to be not worthy of mention. Hence, the idea of Better Business Bureau being a non-profit organization and a federal authority taking care of all businesses within the country is a wrong notion.

The Better Business Bureau often sends a blackmailing kind of letter to all business owners. If you do not pay the requisite $350, you cannot hear anything good and substantial from them about your business. This is more of a threat. 

However, if you stick to your guns and carry on your business unabatedly, you can earn satisfaction and goodwill of your customers and clients through your hard work and unflinching service. It is better to let your work speak for you.
