Success of a business depends heavily on the kind of advertisement it applies. Anybody in business would like to get loads of advertisements free of cost. Success in getting free advertisement would help skyrocket the profit targets.

There is numerous ways of free publicity. People generally agree that the best way is the PRESS or NEWS RELEASE. However, one should remember that making a press release is not enough. Understanding the psychology of the editors and news directors is important to make a press release a success. It entirely depends on them whether to use your press release or not. They are busy people and they are interested only in something new and interesting for their readers or the viewers. Therefore, it is necessary to convince them that your business is of importance for their readers, viewers or listeners.

Another important factor is that of timeliness. The news editors are always on the lookout for current issues and events. Therefore, always try to make the press release in a way that establishes closeness with the current trend or happenings. Moreover, it is important to deliver a press release to the news editors well in advance. If you want your release to appear on a newspaper on a particular day, you need to handover the release to the editor at least nine days prior to the publication date.

If a press release does not have a nice design, it would fail to attract the editors even if it contains some fabulous stuff. You must type the release in double-space and keep it short (1/2 page total length).

People always appreciate courtesy and polite gestures. If an editor publishes, broadcasts or telecasts a release, it is important to follow-up with a customized “thank you” note. Such manners create goodwill and help in further associations. Even if the editor dumps the release, one should never seek an explanation from him. It would seriously damage further prospects of free publicity.
