E-mail Marketing is a new age form of direct marketing. E-mail Marketing comprises any mail whose purpose is to instill brand loyalty, recruit new customers, or advertisements. This is a huge industry and research shows that in 2004, revenues exceeded  $1 billion.

E-mail has caught on primarily due to its mass reach at low costs. Moreover, it reaches instantly. It also has the advantage of allowing the sender to "push" the message instead of posting it on a suite and hoping for people to hit it.  The other side of the coin is that it has resulted in spam mail or junk mail. This creates a problem as most people apply spam filters and legitimate mails too face the problem of being filtered out. In case you are planning on an email campaign, ensure that you adhere to the regulations of the ' CAN-SPAM Act, the European Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 or the Internet provider's acceptable use policy.

A successful online business has to employ E-mail Marketing, apart from having a website.  It is imperative that you regularly communicate with your prospects and clients. To harness the potential of e-mails, you must install good E-mail Marketing software.

Identify first whether you can do with free software or whether a paid one, which can be personalized will be more suitable. Free software may limit you from using advanced features like personalization; e-mail tracking, sending SMS, using CSV files etc. If you opt for a paid service check out their free trial first. Ensure that the services provide features such as monitoring, International Character Support, Plug-ins and updates and most important technical support.

You must verify that your E-mail Marketing vendors are not blacklisted. Your mail should be governed by the CAN-SPAM rules.
