McConnell founded Avon in 1886. It was known as California Perfume Company (CPC) back then and was located in New York City. In September 1939, CPC changed its name to Avon Products Inc and has since been growing rapidly.

Avon has about five million independent sales representatives all over the world who market and sell Avon products. At an estimate Avon products are sold in over 135 countries worldwide. The door-to-door sales representatives in these countries use catalogs to advertise products but in countries like where door-to-door selling has been banned since the 1990’s Avon are sold at retail outlets. Avon’s major product ranges include Avon Color, Anew, Skin-So-Soft, Avon Solutions, Advance Techniques Hair Care, Avon Naturals, Mark, and Avon Wellness. Apart from these, Avon also sells apparel and fashion jewelry.

Andrea Jung who is a Chinese American born in Toronto currently heads the company. She is a graduate from Princeton University. She has held several high corporate posts before joining Avon in 1994. She was promoted to position of Chairperson and the CEO in 1999. Since then, Andrea has carved a new image for Avon making it a company for women that services them and gives them a great source of financial independence. Andrea began her career at Bloomingdales, Inc where she first met her husband Michael Gould. With a long history of successfully selling popular products Avon sure makes for a good distributorship.
